If you are a 90âs kid, we are sure that growing up was a lot more fun than today. And how can you forget Doordarshan? DD was like our only source of television entertainment. And the shows that aired back in the day were not only entertaining but had great content too.
Today we are here to kick in some nostalgia with these evergreen DD television shows that were an integral part of growing up in the 90s.
Time to travel back in time fellas!
1. Jungle Book
Of all the series, Jungle Book was definitely the childrenâs beloved cartoon show. This adaptation of Rudyard Kiplingâs book by the same name will always be remembered.
This fantasy series was based on a novel written by Devaki Nandan Khatri by the same name. Later the series made several re-runs on Sony TV.
Indiaâs first ever detective comedy series was hilarious and equally entertaining (no doubt as it had Pankaj Kapoor as the lead). The series later aired on Sony TV.
This epic remake of the Indian mythological story written by Vyasa was one of the most watched television shows of the time.
Written by Valmiki, this is another mythological story which was famous for its literature and story of Lord Rama.
6. Byomkesh Bakshi.
Based on the character created by Sharadindu Bandyopadhyay this was one of the most famous detective series of the time. (9.1/10 ratings on IMDB!)
The series that introduced the Baadshah of Bollywood was a smashing success and loved by everyone.
8.Â Alif Laila
Just in case you didnât know, Alif Laila was based on the famous Arabic story book Thousand And One Nights.
9. Malgudi Days
Based on the works of legendary cartoonist late RK Narayan, this series follows the life experiences of 10-year-old Swami and his friends in Malgudi village.
10. The Sword Of Tipu Sultan
This historical drama series was based on the life of renowned ruler of Mysore, Tipu Sultan.
India was very proud when we got our first ever superhero, none other than Shaktimaan. This series was a smashing hit and had a run of around 400 episodes!
After Fauji, Shah Rukh made his presence felt on television with Circus. This series revolved around the lives of the troupe members of a circus.
One of the oldest running Indian TV shows of all time! Â Chitrahaar featured and continues to feature latest Bollywood songs.
Featuring Renuka Shahane and Siddharth Kak, this morning cultural magazine program ran for 8 years.
15.Â Vikram Aur Betaal
How can we forget this one? In this cult favorite, King Vikramaditya would drift away in the bewitching stories of ghostly Betaal. Each story carried a moral message. This series was based on the 2500-year-old book written by Mahakavi Somdev Bhatt titled Betaal Pacchisi.
16. Raja Aur Rancho
This super-hit TV series was about Raja and his loyal partner Ranchoâa monkeyâand how the duo would always set out to solve mysterious cases.
17. Flop Show
Directed by and starring Jaspal Bhatti, this hilarious sitcom was a hit showâ contradicting to its title!
18. Mungerilal Ke Haseen Sapne
Another famous sitcom focused on the trials and tribulations of common man Mungerilal.
